A Letter To The Younger Me

Dear little Lucy,

Hey there sweety, you are such a smart girl. I know right now you are feeling like you are so unpopular, not pretty and not smart. I am writing this letter to you to let you know that you ARE beautiful and smart and you will be popular.

Right now you are feeling like your sister is a lot “cooler” than you, prettier than you and smarter than you. I just want to let you know, that she is those things but you are too. You don’t need to compare yourself to anyone. You are a great girl, and you will go far in this world. But you need to know that soon your friends will bug you about doing something that you are not comfortable with. I beg you to not give in.

I am the future you and I am a result of giving in to the peer pressure, I know “ha ha peer pressure isn’t real” but it is. I was not strong enough to say no, but I’m sure you can do it. With this letter I am hoping that you will believe in yourself enough to say “No”. I think it will help if I tell you what will happen in your life if you continue on the path you are on now.

First of all, you will stay the same height. I am as tall at the age of 28 as I was at 10. You will not grow. Secondly (and this is not a bad thing) you will have three beautiful children, girls just like mom. Thirdly your daughters will HATE the fact that you smoke. They will get upset every time you have one, and you will feel bad, every time. In fourth we have the fact that it is very hard to quit. You will try many times over the years with many things to try and help. But not starting is the best thing for everyone in our lives, both past and present.

I am not telling you this to scare you sweety, but to warn you of the hardships that you will face later in life if you decide to continue on the path you are on now.

I love you, and take care of yourself.

Lucy
